Coastal v. Carolina – I’m pulling for my team

The Myrtle Beach Super Regional begins today. Coastal Carolina is the host to South Carolina in a two out of three winner take all for a trip to the College World Series. All games are sold out. It should be a great weekend.

For the teams, this is what they have played for all year. That and nothing more. Powerhouse South Carolina is playing for another trip to Omaha – a place they camped out in for the first part of the 2000’s. For underdog Coastal, it means a chance to get there for the first time.

For the fans, at least some fans in Horry County, it is something more. It is making a choice. It’s deciding on teal or garnet, on pulling for the Cocks or the Chants. For some, it’s not an easy choice. For others, it was made decades ago because it’s a generational thing.

Here is the numbers breakdown, from College Baseball 360:

HR Slg% OBP SB-Att. Fld% ERA CG SV K BB Opp.
Coastal Carolina 55-8 Big South .326 9.3 107 .555 .418 160-196 .970 3.51 2 14 518 216 .246
South Carolina 45-15 SEC .302 7.5 89 .495 .395 45-66 .974 3.53 4 14 553 197 .229

Support the local team or the visiting favorites. Like I said, it should be a great series.
