Coastal Carolina wins Myrtle Beach Regional

The Coastal Carolina baseball team won the Myrtle Beach Regional on Monday. It is now Thursday and I’m finally getting around to writing about it. It has been a very busy week for me with court and clients. I have written before that clients take priority over this blog and that remains true.

I really just wanted to write a short congratulatory post about the Chanticleers. After all, it is a terrific story. Coastal had to play through the loser’s bracket to get to the championship game. That’s quite an accomplishment. I read somewhere that only about six percent of teams are able to do that.

To make it through to the championship game, the Chants had to win three games in two days. They had to beat College of Charleston twice. That is significant because CofC has had Coastal’s number for the last two years.

Here is the short version. Rico Noel hit a walk-off two run homer in the bottom of the 9th inning for Coastal to win Sunday night. On Monday, Coastal took the lead in the top of the 10th inning on a wild pitch and held on for the win.

It was high drama on both days and the best games that I have ever witnessed, period. There were so many great plays made by both teams. Those plays are the things that I will remember. Unfortunately, some people will only remember one call made by one umpire.
