Coastal Baseball Cracks Top Ten

The Coastal Carolina University Baseball Team is getting some well deserved national attention this week. Coastal is ranked #8 in the nation according to Baseball America and the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll.

Coastal went 5-0 last week. This included a midweek victory at Wake Forest. The highlight of the weekend was taking two from UC-Irvine at the Baseball at the Beach tournament. The Anteaters are a very good team and were ranked as high as #4 at the time. Coastal also defeated James Madison University, who are predicted to win their conference, and a very good and undefeated NC State.

The Chanticleers looked very focused during the tournament. Of significance was the fact that they won three games against teams that started their number one pitcher.

Coastal is now 7-1 on the year. The only loss was a 3-2 decision to the University of Kentucky. One consolation from that loss is that UK is having a great year so far, despite the loss of their ace James Paxton.

It was a good week, but it’s time to put the accolades behind them and get ready for the Caravelle Resort Invitational in Conway this weekend. Coastal will host Toledo, Pittsburgh, and Ball State.
