The College Baseball Blog is counting down the top 100 college baseball players in the country. Today the CBB named Cody Wheeler number 43. I knew he would be there, I just didn’t think it would be this soon (I knew this because Brian Foley said it about a month ago). I also knew Cody would be in the top because he went 10-1 last season with 98 strikeouts. He also played for team USA this summer and went 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA.
It’s a great thing that Brian is putting out this list. I don’t think we should get too carried away with it though. It just seems too hard to have a meaningful comparison of players across the board. I can’t see that much difference between Cody at #43 and say the 79th best player - Scott Woodward. For that matter, how do you compare #79, who will probably bat second, with Rico Noel, who will probably lead off? What is the difference in rankings if Scott leads off and Rico bats second? And so it goes…
Keep up the good work CBB. I look forward to counting down the next 42 days. Maybe Rico Noel will make the list.
